This wiki is dedicated to becoming a comprehensive guide to every opening in the game of chess.
In chess, the opening refers to the starting moves of a game. There are hundreds of named, distinct openings and variants upon them, some going on for over 20 moves into the game.
As part of the Openings Wiki project, we are also notating openings with the index number given to them by the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings (ECO). You can browse through our openings according to ECO volume through the links on the right.
